How often does Google re-index websites?

[MUSIC PLAYING] JOHN MUELLER: Today’s webmaster
question was submitted by Jim from Vancouver in Washington. He asks, how often does
Google re-index a website? It seems like it’s much less
often than it used to be. We add or remove
pages from our site, and it’s weeks
before those changes are reflected in Google search. You, too, might be
wondering, how long does it take for Google to
recognize bigger changes on a website? And from there, what can
you do to speed that up? Looking at the whole
website all at once, or even within a
short period of time, can cause a significant
load on a website. Googlebot tries to
be polite, and is limited to a certain
number of pages every day. This number is automatically
adjusted as we better recognize the limits of a website. Looking at portions
of a website means that we have to
prioritize how we crawl. So how does this work? In general, Googlebot tries
to crawl important pages more frequently to make sure
that most critical pages are covered. Often, this will be a website’s
home page or maybe higher level category pages. New content is often mentioned
and linked from there, so it’s a great place
for us to start. We’ll recrawl these
pages frequently, maybe every few days, maybe
even much more frequently, depending on the website. [MUSIC PLAYING] Thank you for watching. Subscribe to the channel to

  1. So, this means that Google Bot or Google Spider crawls those pages very frequently that are getting new elements quickly compared to other pages like content or graphics/video updates. Can you elaborate about "Crawl Budget" and an insight on Sitemap.xml & Robots.txt and how it can be made effective for big websites. Thanks John !

  2. A nice video John but I don't think it really addresses how long the full process takes. You mention crawling but you don't mention how long it takes to re-index and push out the changes to the local data centre. If I'm in position 10 and I add some really relevant information that makes me the most relevant website on the internet, how many days or weeks would it be before I appear at the top of the listings: That is how long will it take to crawl, index and push-out the changes?

  3. Hey John, what are the best practices for links in sponsored articles? Do we need to insert nofollow? Is there any value from such links or that would make the recepient penalized?

  4. Submitting XML feed to any Advertisement website to create ads related to my website and its content in bulk which would be paid or free in order to get more business regarding my niche so does google takes this as an spam or if yes so why so this is how google adwords workd itself?

  5. I have found a website guilty of securing PAID ad links in the form of image ads running into the millions of backlinks. They have been reported to Google for webspam AND paid links, but no action taken. Why are they not penalized?

  6. What problem can a website have when they publish the same content on their website and on many other ADVERTISING websites "like jobs offers"?

And is there a way to fix it without writing a new content?

    THANKS

  8. Prioritise your website pages with a sitemap.xml file – post this in the root Directory (say htdocs) of your website. Update this file every time you update your website. I hope this helps?
You can get a sitemap file at a sitemap generator website. 🙂
