How To Add AMP To Your WordPress Website – Accelerated Mobile Pages

Welcome back for another video my name is
Adam from where I make videos for non-techies like me making this video
with the makers of the total theme and it’s a totally awesome team and
in this video is actually the second of a video series about AMP which is Google’s accelerated
mobile pages now in this video I’m actually going to show you how to implement it on your
WordPress website now if you watch my first video your head might have been spending like
oh my goodness this seems like it can be complicated it’s only to be reserved for big publications
it sounded real complicated now the good news is WordPress has you covered there is a WordPress
plug-in on a show you in this video I have to do is install and activate it in you are
a AMP ready that’s it and then there’s a second plug-in that will add more features to AMP
so AMP is gonna really strip out a lot of what makes your website your website right
so if you have things like advertisements all over it and related posts in all these
kinds of sidebar widgets and all that AMP is meant to cut a strip that down and just
to your content to show that the people that are visiting your website on a mobile device
and so with the AMP plug-in that WordPress makes does that but you want to add some of
those things back like maybe some Google AdSense and some different features that you like
and so there’s a plug-in that can help add that back in so when I stop talking and start
showing you what I’m talking about so this is the first plug in organist all just AMP
and you can see it’s being heavily used on WordPress websites right now that’s because
something that Google is really pushing on website owners to implement on their website
and then renew install this right here AMP for WordPress which is going to get is this
list of features here that will be on the add back into these amp pages you can see
couple of them here related posts recent comments etc. etc. Google AdSense things like that so I mean
a WordPress installation here all I have to do is go to plug-ins add new and then I’m
going to just do a search for AMP right there and the first result is of course going to
be plug-in made by the makers of WordPress all you have to do is click on install and
then were going to go ahead and click on this activate button and that’s pretty much all
there is to having M on your website now if you want to extend what actually shows on
these and pages that’s when you want to click on add new again in your gonna want to add
that other plug-in and it’s right here it is right there AMP for WP accelerated mobile
pages Cisco and click on install on this one and then we are going to click on activate
okay now this plug-in will have options right so were got this new option panel here this
is AMP so we can go ahead and just click on that and we have a variety of options that
we can click through here to now have more control over what it shows in how it shows
on these AMP pages and it’s all pretty simple you can go here and you can click through
a lot of the different options to get it exactly how you want it for example advertisements
and we can have different ads that show on these pages and then hears options for the
different single pages like post meta-featured images of pagination tags and things like
that which you want to actually have a showing on these pages that are being served up through
a.m. P and then you can also contrary structured
data and you can have the ability to tweak some of the CSS settings was nice is if you
have lots of websites you are implementing this on you can export your settings and they
just import them on each of your websites and it really couldn’t be any easier than
that so this is what you need to do in order to implement AMP on your website it is going
to be a Google ranking factor at some point here soon so you might as well start implementing
it as soon as you can on your WordPress-based website before you go I have something for
you and before I get into that I wanted to ask you to do something for me you can give
me a thumbs up on this video and if you’re not a subscriber click on the subscribe button
right beneath me if you have a question on this video I’m happy answering you can also
leave a comment or question down below this video hey I put together a course just for
you and him and they give it to you for free all you have to do is click on the button
right here on the right is called the three steps to WordPress success is an awesome course

course thanks for watching this video I really appreciated and I do it just for you

  1. Adam, a question I have that I have not found an answer to is about how will AMP affect those who utilize page builders to put together a website? Does it affect your page ranking capabilities in regards to SEO if the theme you are using is mobile responsive? Still receive a lot of AMP validation errors in Google's Search Console, but those errors are coming from pages that are relying upon a page builder. To say I am battling with this is just a bit of an understatement.

I really wish when Google pushed for this, seeing that so many agencies actually use page builders, there would have been better documentation about this. However, your video is amazing. I didn't have the additional plugin upon my site, so I may have to install it and see what happens.

  2. Hey! This is Ahmed Kaludi, One of the lead developers of this AMP for WP plugin.

Thank you so much for covering our plugin! We're so glad that we are able to help so many people! What's the best way to get in touch with you outside this community? We need your feedback on some of the things that we're working on regarding AMP.

    Thanks again!

  3. Hi Adam Awesome training videos. They have helped me out a lot. Have you ever tried this plugin for AMP?  Facebook Instant Articles & Google AMP Pages Plugin  by PageFrog

  4. I added both pluggins. When i check in google, i don't  have "amp" in front of the meta description. Does it maybe takes some time to show in google?

  5. Quick question, is there a way I can add the AMP functionality to a page? so far I've seen it works only for blog posts. Or maybe I'm wrong lol

  6. Seeing as Google is now focusing on mobile indexing first, I think I am going to remove the AMP plugin. Having had several discussions with various individuals across the WordPress ecosphere, I'm not sure that they will provide any additional benefit. Plus, add to that the vast amount of errors they it throws in the Google Search Console, I think people will gain just as much by following basic SEO practices and as well as designing for the mobile web as we have been.

  7. Adam, just wanted to say thanks. 3 weeks ago I had never used WordPress. I'm a graphic designer just getting into web (been in the print industry for many years). 18. If you care about branding, don’t activate AMP as Google replaces your website address with theirs, creating an impression that Google owns the displayed content.
