Unicoi County dump site back in business Monday following drug arrest


BACK IN BUSINESS TODAY AFTER IT’S OPERATOR WAS ARRESTED IN A DRUG INVESTIGATION FRIDAY UNICOI COUNTY SHERIFF MIKE HENSLEY SAID THEY’VE BEEN INVESTIGATING WHAT HE DESCRIBED AS “DRUG ACTIVITY” ON THE SITE FOR WEEKS NOW JORDAN MOORE WAS IN UNICOI COUNTY TODAY TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT WHAT LEAD TO THIS ARREST. JOSH SARA SHERIFF HENSLEY SAID TIPS STARTED COMING INTO THEIR DEPARTMENT ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO— TIPS, THAT THERE WAS IN FACT DRUG ACTIVITY GOING ON AT THE LIMESTONE COVE DUMP SITE…. “NAT ROADWAY” THE CAUTION TAPE THAT WAS WRAPPED AROUND THE LIMESTONE COVE DUMP SITE OVER THE WEEKEND HERE IN UNICOI COUNTY ….WAS GONE BY THE TIME WE GOT THERE MONDAY AFTERNOON “NAT CARS” BACK IN BUSINESS JUST THREE DAYS AFTER THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF THIS SITE, WAS ARRESTED IN A DRUG INVESTIGATION UNICOI COUNTY SHERIFF MIKE HENSLEY “WHEN YOU’VE GOT ILLEGAL DRUG ACTIVITY GOING ON, ANYTHING CAN GO BAD, AND WHERE YOU’VE GOT KIDS AND FAMILES PULLING UP IN CARS, PUTTING THEIR WASTE IN CONTAINERS…WE HAD TO ACT ON THIS QUICK AS WE POSSIBLY COULD AND WE DID.” 56-YEAR-OLD DOUGLAS SHANE CHURCH, THE OPERATOR OF THAT SITE, WAS ARRESTED AFTER THE WEEKS-LONG INVESTIGATION INVOLVING BOTH COUNTY NARCOTIC INVESTIGATORS AND D-T-F AGENTS CHURCH NOW FACES CHARGES INCLUDING POSESSION OF SCHEDULE THREE DRUGS FOR RESALE… “IS IT FAIR TO SAY THAT DRUGS WERE BOTH COMING AND GOING FROM THIS FACILITY?” “THEY WERE COMING THERE, AND THEY WERE GOING FROM THERE AND THEY WERE BEING USED THERE.” DRUGS SHERIFF HENSLEY DESCRIBED AS, MOSTLY PILLS—THINGS LIKE XANAX… WHEN WE ASKED SHERIFF HENSLEY IS MORE PEOPLE COULD FACE CHARGES IN THIS CASE? “I DON’T WANNA COMMENT ON ANYTHING I DONT WANT TO COMPROMISE THE INVESTIGATION, I CAN SAY THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.” JORDAN MOORE NEWSCHANNEL 11 IN YOUR CORNER AND DOUGLAS SHANE CHURCH WAS ARRESTED ON A 21 THOUSND DOLLARS BOND HE IS EXPECTED TO MAKE HIS INITIAL COURT APPEARANCE THIS THURSDAY—
