US economy is good, but tariffs hurt small business: Roger Williams

IMMIGRATION. RIGHT NOW, PRESIDENT TRUMP STRIKING AN OPTIMISTIC TONE AN A TRADE DEAL, THIS COMES ON THE SIDELINES OF THE G-7 SUMMIT IN FRANCE, RAISING HOPES FOR A SOLUTION IN THE ONGOING FEUD AND IT CAME AFTER CHINA’S VICE PREMIER LIU HE SPOKE OUT OVERNIGHT, SAYING BEIJING SEEKS A, QUOTE, CALM RESOLUTION TO THE CONFLICT. HERE’S WHAT PRESIDENT TRUMP SAID JUST MOMENTS AGO.>>WE’VE HAD CALLS. WE’VE HAD CALLS AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. THE VICE CHAIRMAN PUT OUT A STATEMENT LAST NIGHT, HE SAID HE WANTS TO MAKE A DEAL AND HE WANTS CALM. I THINK IT’S A VERY GOOD WORD TO USE, CALM. NOT A WORD THAT I USE THAT OFTEN. BUT IT’S A GOOD WORD TO USE. AND I THINK IT’S ONE OF THE REASONS THAT IT’S A GREAT COMPANY AND THEY UNDERSTAND. I THINK THAT MESSAGE ALSO HELPS WITH RESPECT TO HONG KONG. I REALLY DO. I THINK IT MAKES IT EASIER FOR HONG KONG TO DO SOMETHING. I THINK THAT PRESIDENT XI WILL DO SOMETHING WITH HONG KONG. I REALLY THINK MESSAGE IS A GOOD MESSAGE WITH RESPECT TO WHAT THE ULTIMATE OUTCOME IS IN HONG KONG. DAGEN: SOME OF THE PRESIDENT’S INCREASED TARIFFS WOULD GO INTO EFFECT THIS WEEKEND. JOINING US NOW, TEXAS CONGRESSMAN, HOUSE FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE MEMBER, ROGER WILLIAMS. CONGRESSMAN, GOOD TO SEE YOU.>>GOOD MORNING, DAGEN. DAGEN: WE’RE WATCHING WHAT’S TRANS SPIRING — TRANSPIRING IN FRANCE AT THE G-7 SUMMIT. WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?>>WHAT THE PRESIDENT DID WITH JAPAN YESTERDAY IS A P STEP STEP JAPAN YESTERDAY IS A P STEP STEF JAPAN YESTERDAY IS A P STEP STER JAPAN YESTERDAY IS A P STEP STEA JAPAN YESTERDAY IS A P STEP STED JAPAN YESTERDAY IS A P STEP STE. AS LONG AS THEY’RE TALKING, THAT’S GREAT. WE WANT TO GET SOMETHING DONE. I’M A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER, MAIN STREET AMERICA. WE WANT TO GET SOMETHING DONE SO WE CAN MOVE FORWARD AND WE KNOW WHAT THE COST OF GOODS IS GOING TO BE AND SO FORTH. I THINK HE’S DOING A GREAT JOB AND EXCITED ABOUT THE DEAL HE MADE WITH JAPAN. DAGEN: IN TERMS OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS, SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS IN PARTICULAR, ARE THEY FEELING THE IMPACT OF THE ONGOING TRADE FIGHT?>>A LOT OF THEM ARE. A LOT OF THEM, IT’S — WHEN YOU HAVE A TARIFF, IT REALLY RAISES THE COST OF GOODS SOLD. I’VE HAD SOME SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS SAY THEIR GOODS HAVE GONE UP 10 TO 15%, IT’S SLOWING THEIR BUSINESS DOWN. WE DON’T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN. I BELIEVE THE ANSWER IS TO CUT TAXES EVEN MORE, PUT CASH FLOW INTO AMERICA’S SMALL BUSINESS’ HANDS AND LET US CASH FLOW OUR COUNTRY. I THINK A COMBINATION OF THAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GO. DAGEN: RYAN HAS A QUESTION FOR YOU.>>CONGRESSMAN, JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY, WHEN YOU TALK TO BUSINESS OWNERS, HOW IS SENTIMENT IN GENERAL RIGHT NOW? WE LOOK AT THE OVERALL HEALTH OF THE ECONOMY. I’M A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER. THAT’S A GOOD LITMUS TEST FOR WHERE WE ARE ECONOMICALLY SPEAKING IN THE U.S.>>THE ECONOMY’S GOOD. I’M IN THE CAR BUSINESS. WE’RE ONE OF THE FIRST TO KNOW WHEN IT’S GOOD OR BAD. BUSINESS IS GOOD. PEOPLE ARE EXPANDING. WE’VE GOT MORE JOB START-UPS, SMALL BUSINESS START-UPS THAN EVER IN THIS COUNTRY. THINGS ARE GOING GOOD. THE ATTITUDE’S GOOD. LIKE ANYTHING ELSE, WE WANT TO HAVE A PATH AND WE ARE VERY — IN TEXAS, WE’RE GLAD WE DON’T REALLY HAVE THE CANADA, MEXICO CONTENT TARIFFS RIGHT NOW. THAT’S IMPORTANT HERE IN OUR AREA. BUT BUSINESS IS GOOD. LET’S KEEP IT THAT WAY. LET’S NOT RAISE THE PRICE OF GOODS SOLD AN LET’S CASH FLOW MAIN STREET. DAGEN: I WANT TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE PRELIMINARY TRADE DEAL WITH JAPAN. ROBERT LIGHTHIZER SAYS THAT THE DEAL WOULD FOCUS ON AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY AND DIGITAL TRADE. AND LET’S ALSO TALK ABOUT THE USMCA. WHEN IS THE HOUSE GOING TO PICK THIS UP AND VOTE ON IT, AS SOON AS YOU GET BACK?>>WELL, I WOULD HOPE SO. WE SHOULD HAVE VOTED ON IT BEFORE. SPEAKER PELOSI KEPT IT OFF THE R FLOOR. I THINK IT’S GOING TO PASS. IT’S GOOD FOR AMERICA, IT’S GOOD FOR THE WORLD, IT’S GOOD FOR TEXAS. WE NEED TO VOTE ON IT AND I THINK — LIKE I SAY, I THINK IT WILL PASS. IT’S GOTTEN TO BE POLITICAL. NOBODY WANTS TO HAVE THE PRESIDENT GET A VICTORY. IT WOULD BE A VICTORY FOR HIM AND EVERYBODY, INCLUDING THE WORLD. IT’S GOING TO BE GOOD TRADE OPTIONS. WE NEED TO GET IT PAPPED F PASSE WE NEED TO GET IT PAPPED F PASS. I HOPE WE VOTE ON IT WHEN WE GET BACK. DAGEN: THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ON IMMIGRATION, PROPOSING EXTENDING THE DAYS THAT A FAMILY CAN BE HELD, MOTHER AND CHILD, FOR EXAMPLE, UNDER THE FLORES AGREEMENT, A RULE CHANGE THAT WOULD ALLOW MIGRANT FAMILIES TO BE HELD IN CUSTODY INDEFINITELY AS OPPOSED TO 20 DAYS. MARIA BARTIROMO SPOKE WITH MARK MORGAN, ACTING CUSTOMS AND BORDER PATROL COMMISSIONER YESTERDAY, ON SUNDAY MORNING FUTURES, AND HE SAID THIS. CONGRESSMAN, LISTEN TO IT. I’LL GET YOUR REACTION.>>EXPLAIN THE NEWS ON THE FLORES AGREEMENT AND WHY IT’S IMPORTANT, SIR.>>MARIA, YOU’RE SPOT-ON OF. THAT’S ONE OF THE FALSE NARRATIVES OUT THERE THAT WE’RE GOING TO INDEFINITELY HOLD CHILDREN. THAT’S ABSOLUTELY FALSE. THE NEW FLORES REGULATION CHANGES THAT. THAT’S WHY IT’S A GAME CHANGER. WITH THE NEW REGULATION, WE CAN HOLD FAMILIES TOGETHER IN A HEALTHY, SAFE ENVIRONMENT, WHILE THEY GO THROUGH THE IMMIGRATION PROCEEDING AND THEN IF THE CLAIMS ARE MERIT-BASED CLAIMS, WE RELEASED THEM. IF THEY’RE MERITLESS, THEY’RE SENT BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY. WE’RE GOING TO HOLD THEM AS LONG AS IT TAKES FOR THE IMMIGRATION PROCESS AND HISTORY HAS SHOWN US THAT’S BETWEEN 40 AND 60 DAYS. IT’S NOT INDEFINITE. MARIA: YOU’RE GOING TO FACE A WAVE OF LITIGATION. ARE YOU EXPECTING THE LAWSUITS TO BEGIN TOMORROW?>>WE BELIEVE THIS MEETS AND EXCEEDS THE CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE FLORES SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT. IT WILL BE LITIGATED. DAGEN: CONGRESSMAN, YOUR QUICK REACTION?>>WELL, I THINK IT’S A GOOD MOVE. IT KEEPS THE FAMILIES TOGETHER. IT LETS THEM HAVE THEIR DUE PROCESS TOGETHER. AND SO IT DOESN’T SEPARATE THE FAMILIES WHICH IS A BIG ARGUMENT. I THINK IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

  1. There is a bigger picture Rog mate. To make an omelet you need to break a few eggs. Things will settle. Stop reacting to every shift in the wind.

  2. A better idea that tariffs would be a full embargo until they free Hong Kong and close their concentration camps. Screw Winnie the Pooh the tyrant. There is no reason to buy any junk from China.

  3. tariffs are not hurting small businesses in this country that is an outright blatant lie. The thing that is hurting small businesses in this country is the being forced to pay $15 an hour minimum wage. That and everything that the Socialist members of our government are trying to push to make small businesses pay for that they cannot afford.

  4. Not true, it is hurting globalist retailing companies. Fox Business has some people on with anti American agendas a lot.

  5. Trump's destroying this country with his extortion tariffs.
He's kissing Abe's azz to get Japan to buy more US debt in treasury bonds because China won't due it anymore.

  6. may hurt small business but nowhere near as much as a mandatory 15 dollar minimum wage. as a small business owner, I want my raw materials coming from a place that is not trying to take our place in the world.

  7. AMAZOM HURTS SMALL BUSINESSES AND FRANCHISES……
TAXES , ILLEGALS AND INVADERS, HURT SMALL BUSINESSES AND FRANCHISES…..
DEMOCRATS LIBERALS AND MEDIA HAVEN'T GAVE A DAMM ABOUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND LEGAL IMMIGRANTS FOR DECADES. WE HAVE SUFFERED BECAUSE OF THEIR SALEING US OUT.
IT WILL HURT THE WEALTHY ALOT MORE.
WE WILL SAVE OUR CONSTITUTION OUR COUNTRY OUR FREEDOMS AND LIBERTIES! 2020….
    WE CAN REBUILD …

WE WANT A WALL …. STRONG IMMIGRATION LAWS AND THEM INFORCED…. WE WILL NOT BE OPEN BORDERS AND SOCIALIST!!!!!!! AMERICA STAYS FREE!!!!!? 2020

  8. What about nafta!!! It’s hurt the whole country!!! In Wichita Falls tx Delhi , Stanley tools, certaintee , and few other major employers left outside the country!! Ithat has drastically hurt our locally economies!!

  9. Tariffs are causing flow of goods to shift. Farmers were hurt but Japan is starting to buy more. Europe is starting to buy more beef. Businesses are leaving China so prices will settle. After UK leaves union, more opportunities will develop for both countries. Don't forget about new trade deal with Mexico and Canada.

  10. Tariffs on Chinese imports wont effect small businesses like they would big businesses unless those small businesses are more dependant on Chinese imports. The thing hurting small businesses the most is incompetence. Support for tax breaks that help big businesses help big businesses push emall businesses out of business. Taxes on Internet sales hurt small businesses because the customer wont buy what small businesses are selling just because they want them to and those taxes from Internet purchases fund bureaucratic stuff thats harder on small businesses.

The worst thing small business owners have is an unrealistic sense of entitlement and ridiculous sentiments of expectation and expectancy. Instead of complaining about those "internets" and no sales tax and ignoring shipping and handling costs, try communicating with the customer. I know its a far out idea compared to having automatons simply buying whatever is being sold, though it could pay off "bigly" in the long term…

  11. Yeah, if your small business is about selling crappy stuff from China that puts our people out of work then yeah, it's hurting your crappy business.
TARIFFS ARE ALL ABOUT HELPING ALL BUSINESSES BY REDUCING FOREIGN COMPETITION.
I think this is what Trump is talking about when he says FOX isn't any better than CNN.
Maria shocked me last week with one of her statements.
    Did China buy FOX news??
How about taking an economics class and not the one that AOC took.

  12. On Wednesday, the US Department of Labor said that the number of jobs added to the economy from April 2018 to March 2019 was actually half a million fewer than previously thought.  The same day, the Congressional Budget Office issued a warning about the size of the federal budget deficit. With the warning signs getting harder to ignore, Trump has started blaming others for the possible slowdown. Gloomy labor statistics show that the retail apocalypse was worse than we thought.  The retail industry has 146,400 fewer new jobs than previously thought.  Retail was one of the hardest hit sectors on its list of revisions. The specter of the retail apocalypse still hangs over the whole industry. And the latest gloomy numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that it's not going anywhere soon. After reviewing its statistics on the numbers of new jobs created between 2018 and 2019, the bureau cut its annual benchmark of nonfarm jobs by 501,000 jobs. These numbers aren't just a sign that President Donald Trump's signature tax cuts didn't actually spur more hiring. They're also an indication that retail is far from out of the woods. The industry was one of the hardest-hit sectors on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' list of revisions.

  13. Friday the Market fell 600 pts on Trumps statement.
    But what businesses were hit??
Big Tech like Apple that sells us cell phones and computers that send our data to China.
Google and Facebook that sold ads to China that gave Hillary over 2.5 Million votes.
So yeah, If I sell crappy Apple Products, My treasonous business is hurting.

  14. You ahole FoxNew hosts don't talk about deficit just as how you talked under Obama?
I clearly remember you guys acted like you lost your parents when deficit increased under Obama when he was trying to pull the economy out of recession.

  15. If you want stability, allow the President to continue his strong policy against China into a second term! They've never seen this kind of resistance. Softening now sets us back to funding their military every year!

  16. CONGRATULATIONS MR. POTUS—-THE
CHI-COMS HAVE "BLINKED"!!! Got them on the Ropes. Now do NOT go all
mushy and grant any concessions now!! Rather CONTINUE to Force Major
Verifiable Concession from Them!! Do not fall for their Trickery!! Continue as
    Follows Sir:
Mr. POTUS: STOP this back and forth with the Chi-Coms!! Go for the JUGULAR
without delay and show NO Mercy. (I am sure you are aware of a Hostile
Takeover) This what you MUST DO Before the upcoming elections. TARIFFS: US
Consumer's pay the Tariff, ONLY by their own choice by buying the Tariff
products. That is called informed consent!!! The Tariffs are paid by Chi-Com
businesses/importers, the moment they enter the country—-whether they
eventually sell or Not! Mr. POTUS, you Need to BREAK the BACKS of the Chi-Coms
Economy BEFORE 2020, by raising the Tariffs to 100%-200% or however much it
takes to bring them down. The Chi-Coms export to USA in a 5 to 1 $ Dollar
Ratio. We would experience some effect but could Bite the Bullet long enough
for this to work!!! Also, it would result in American Businesses Coming back
home. Actively Solicit those businesses and Sweeten the Deal with some Tax
Based Incentives. Think about how many new jobs that would be created. Those
Businesses that won’t come home will just be SOL, as with Proper incentives the
American Entrepreneur WILL RISE to the needs of the Nation!!!

  17. Let us trust our President Trump on Tariffs on China , he know what he's doing and Especially for our Country and Benefits and growing Economy's . President Trump is very Good in Negotiations .🌝🌝😎😎

  18. As regards the small business—compensate them for the financial damages via the tax structure. This won't take long. Just help us through it as we Bite the Bullet!!

  20. The only arguments I've heard against tariffs seem to fall into two categories. The first is the argument that tariffs are harmful because they helped cause the Civil War. This argument does not apply to foreign, semi-hostile governments such as China, in my opinion, so it is not valid. The second is that tariffs will hurt American farmers. This argument seems extremely short sighted considering the years of those opposed to tariffs seem to have been responsible for the near destruction of working class jobs in the nation's heartland and other places. What's wrong with a little pain in order to fix the trade imbalance caused by years of establishment thinking? It seems to make sense economically.

  21. 🔴Manufacturing is not coming back. Stop dreaming about that. Capitalism abandoned this country a long time ago, it went to China, Brazil, mexico etc. The private companies that left nobody told them to leave, they did it because is more profitable. They don’t care about being American or so on. Wake up and start accepting they don’t owe you nothing. Want free markets, there you go.🙄🤷‍♂️

  22. we can beat the chicoms now. focus on the long game, their regime could colapse. they lie to us, steal our secrets!!, and prop up our enemies. to hell with the chicoms.

  23. Why is the RV industry going downhill so fast then? Normally if the RV industry is crashing then the economy is getting ready to go downhill fast.

  24. "I bet some small business owners say their products have gone up 10-15%" not exactly hard facts there. again, click bate title = (

  25. Democrats going to be all pissed because I want them here for their boats that's all I want because, people are starting to wake up to what they're doing all races are waking up just seeing what they're doing so that's why they want the illegal aliens here and yes there are questions on the census about are you an illegal alien and all this are you from this world from this country or what country are you from are you Hispanic are you there are you that yeah they got them on there and I'm glad they do cuz you got to put all the peoples names in your house it's underneath that's in the meteor roof the whole nine yards

  26. I hereby proclaim; U.S. companies are forbidden to…… Wait a minute isn’t that the State dictating, regulating and using administrative direction on the free enterprise system? Isn’t there a word for that? Oh yeah, Socialism!

  27. Did we Chinese said that??? No … We Chinese are not ready to resume the talk until the Trump administration drop these MF nonsense,

  28. The US economy is not good. All the economic figures coming from the talking heads Our Lives. Unemployment rate is around 30%. They just don't count people that are unemployed. And if somebody is forced to have two or three jobs to make ends meet the count that is two or three full-time employed people. The numbers are complete lies. Same thing with inflation. Any normal person that goes to normal stores nose inflation is probably closer to 20% if not much greater. They don't count products that people use, and they substitute poor quality products for higher quality products and pretend that the price is not going up. They manipulate these numbers for inflation and unemployment they never give the real numbers all the numbers are manipulated and fake. The US economy is a big lie House of Cards.

  29. This guy is full of it! I'm in the car business too bonuses have been cut people have been let go we are getting ready for a massive slow down small sedan vehicles sales are down everything's slowing down I don't understand where this guy got his numbers from

  30. We need to tariff more on China they steal our technology each years they cheating us 507 Billions for 30 years from now. Last idiots Fake President Obama want to destroyed USA!!

  31. It'll hurt a lot more long-term if we don't fix this now. Is it possible to hurt small business more than the Obama Administration did? This will seem like a vacation compared to that….

  32. Looks like many treasonous jewtubers selling made in china hats, tshirts, cups, jackets and other worthless crap are gonna have to purchase made in America products rather then their worthless made for communists crap.

  33. Its just a matter of time before CHUMP opens his mouth and dispels all doubt that he is a complete and utter moron incapable of running a casino let alone a country. Every time he creates a problem with tariffs it sends the stock market plummeting, then low and behold within 2 days the Chinese are calling him for a deal. You're blind and stupid if you don't see this pattern that has been going on for 18 months.

  34. We don't need China…the only reason we trade with China is because it was part of the Communist plan to make the US Communist and get China accepted in the Global economy.

  35. CONGRESSMAN WILLIAMS, YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING / ANYTHING TO MAKE OUR PRESIDENT LOOK BAD. HOW ABOUT GETTING ILLEGAL ALIENS OUT OF YOUR STATE AND OUT OF OUR COUNTRY? THIS WILL SAVE THE USA 23 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!

  36. China…. NO Quarter!
They owe us big time, and it's time to collect, even if it means discomfort in the short term.
People who want to go easy on China want to do so because they have "interests" in China.
    AMERICA FIRST

  37. It may be true that tariffs hurt small bussiness, but I remember when there were tariffs and it seemed to me there were ALOT more small bussinesses.

  38. Tariffs hurt Small Businesses that Sold Out America for Profit,…Just like a good little Globalist should…No Sympathy!

  39. Sure Sure I believe the talking heads…..I believe in results and positive results is what we are seeing. Where was the concern for all the small businesses that were wiped out by Chinese controlled walmart? These people are just trying at every turn to make something positive into a negative.

  40. Good job ,but why can't we fire them if the don't do the JOB we hired them for if we don't do our Job the fire us without Pay .I agree for Term Limits the should not be allowed to get rich on our Tax money if we can't get rid of them then we should be allowed to give The greatest PRESIDENT DONAld TRUMP an extra 4 jear for the terrible 4 jears the putt our PRESIDENT true let him have 8 jearsThank you MISTER PRESIDENT DONAld TRUMP

  41. For decades our Presidents have overlooked the Chinese abuse ,fighting back is not easy and might signify some sacrifices , …..but the alternative that is do nothing is not acceptable.

  42. It’s all about the greed and selfishness and the love of money. God forbid someone take a loss.
    Particularly, China.

  43. China denies it has called Trump. This US President is so weak, he tries to cover every failing with lies. America is embarrassing itself.

  44. Trump has an urge to purify.
Trump's urge does it again. He can claim the Japan deal as a tribute to his negotiating technique, and he lets the rest of the West sympathize with the agreements made or not. The Chinese would not want to impose dormant communist norms on the West. China cannot continue to manipulate its currency at the expense of the West. Theft of intellectual knowledge for the benefit of their economy and industrial-military complex must stop. That is the message that the president continues to deliver consistently in his speeches. It is a relief to see how political experts receive free public lessons on how to practice politics. The actions of this Potus must be the model of future political practice because all humanity can benefit from it. The Chinese can only participate if they distance themselves from their manipulative currency practices. Economic convergence of the political systems once discussed at a public administration college that is now almost 56 years ago. At that time, I was already wondering how that convergence should come about. It is now clear to me that convergence goes hand in hand with respecting and respecting regulations and currency agreements. My simple conclusion is therefore not a systematic economic convergence between Western capitalist and other communist systems.

  45. A weak dollar hurts the middle class…tariffs are the least of our worries. END THE FEDERAL RESERVE! BRING BACK THE CHAINS OF THE GOLD STANDARD! CUT BACK THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! THEY ARE TOO BIG TO FUND!

  46. Hurt small business? Small price to pay for Getting our balls back. The pros outweigh the cons in the long run. $15 minimum wage would hurt a lot more ,would put Small business out of business

  47. china got rich and powerful because of USA look back at china 50 years a ago they had nothing NOTHING and look at them now they want free deal , CHINA NO !!!!!! TRUMP IS NOT STUPID LIKE BUSH, OBAMA, and CLINTON etc…… SO china NEED USA < USA DON'T NEED CHINA !!!!!

  48. Can someone please tell me why we keep track of the national debt if just keeps going up but we're supposedly "winning"? Does it even matter?

  49. Make sure you always state who is it good for. The economy is good for the owners and the wealthy. The bottom 80% are living pay check to pay check and homeless are everywhere.

  50. TRUMP is a smart business man he doesnt lose ! Take advantage of this situation we will never have a great president like this again ! He is business man not a tax and money waster ! VOTE TRUMP 2020 !
